Accent Walls

September 19th, 2013

I’ve been touring properties quite a bit lately and it’s funny to me sometimes how people choose to paint their homes.

You get ONE Accent wall.

Not seven.

The Decorologist did a great post on this subject, which you can read here. She hits the nail on the head.

“Please do it right or don’t do it at all.”

Amen, sister.

The picture I posted above has at least four colors (green, light blue, gray and tan).

In general, pick one accent color and place it carefully.  The Decorologist hit it perfectly by saying the architecture should be your guide.  Very true.  Highlight a natural focal point (a fireplace wall, bed wall, etc).

If you have a weird soffit in your room, I would not highlight this as an accent.  It will draw futher attention to it.  Paint it your wall (or field) color and make it go away.

What are your thoughts? Have you painted every wall differently? Might be time to head to Ace Hardware my friend.

  1. Ha! This made me laugh out loud. Calm down, indeed.

  2. Emily Tate says:

What’s the deal with the crown molding frame on part of the wall? Is that a thing now? Haha
