How to Change A Look

February 19th, 2018

Everyone has a space that they might wish was a little different but don’t feel like re-doing the ENTIRE room.  Listen, you don’t have to! Today I’m sharing five tips on how to change your look (without changing everything).

Accessories are the easiest (and most cost effective) things to change.  Pillows are a great way to change a room by adding a punch of color or pattern.  When you’re sick of the pillow, switch it out! Easy and simple.

You can dramatically change the look and feel of a room with a can of paint.  Save even more money by throwing in some elbow grease and doing it yourself. I’m currently loving Sherwin Williams Naval and Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter.

I love adding fresh flowers and before you bring up cost, think of Trader Joe’s.  You can pick up a pretty bouquet on the cheap, or snag a bunch of hydrangeas from the grocery.  You can usually get 3 for $7 and they easily fill a vase.

I love over-scaled artwork, and you can always make an impact with a thought provoking piece.  For me, the bigger the better and Minted now has some amazing pieces at a great price.

Don’t be intimidated.  A little effort can go a long way!

How to Style a Console

February 13th, 2018

Today I’m sharing a step-by-step guide on how to style a console. Start with a large scale mirror or art piece that is around 8″ smaller than the width on your console. From there, add a pretty lamp for light (and here a punch of color). Then feel free to layer artwork.  This piece shown is leaning. From there add books, a pretty candle holder and orchid for that ever so “effortless” styling look. If your console is open below, add further dimension by placing two ottomans or pretty storage baskets beneath. Voila! If you’re trying to style pieces in your home, learn the value of editing.  Always take a step back and look at the whole picture.

Happy Friday

February 9th, 2018

Hello and happy Friday! Hope it’s been a wonderful week.  It’s supposed to snow tomorrow and let me tell you, I love some weekend snow.  It’s the best excuse to stay in and play with Taylor. She is getting so big and busy (and will be nine months old next week! HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?) Here are some fun links for your Friday:

If you haven’t read this article yet, you should.  It’s wheels off

How to Style Bookshelves

January 29th, 2018

If you follow me on Instagram, you made have seen me flood a bunch of pictures of these custom shelves I designed for a project in Atlanta.  They turned out so fun and I could not wait to share.  How to style is one of my most frequently asked questions, so today I’m going to share how I came up with this concept.  I needed an interesting TV wall for a gameroom, but didn’t want just a TV mounted in the center of the room. It needed some interest. I started with an offset TV and then added my shelving.  From there, I needed a thought out, cohesive theme. The color scheme of this project was pretty light blues, white and punches of gold.

I rendered the space to scale and added in my accessories.  The end result is pretty close. I love the overall look.  I bought books from Books By the Foot in their wrapped in white series. I wanted to add a lot of stacks, but didn’t want the content to be distracting.  The end result was the perfect space filler while staying true to the color scheme. From there I added fun gold accessories and voila!

The key to good style is careful planning!

Nest Tulum

January 17th, 2018

I don’t know about you, but chilly temps have me dreaming of a vacation.  That or maybe just general lack of sleep with a baby.  Either way, Nest in Tulum, Mexico looks like a dream. How perfect is this boutique hotel?

I mean… how soon can we go?

Today I have a gift guide for the frequent traveler (aka me). I travel all the time for work and personal and one thing’s for sure: it pays to be prepared.

Comfortable shoes are key, but comfort doesn’t have to sacrifice appearance. These flats from Tory Burch are perfect and will fold up into your carry on.

This one goes without saying, but good luggage is key. I’ve been eyeing hard cased bags lately, and this one comes in the perfect shade of rose gold.

Carrying your own water bottle is so much cheaper than grabbing one in the airport. This collapsible bottle is perfect to throw in your purse.

I always bring a travel size group of my favorite products. I know they have free samples in most hotels, but let’s be honest…most of those leave your hair dry and brittle. These are my favorite and help keep my hair tame in any climate.

Most planes are freezing and I tend to be a germophobe on airplanes. Bring your own blanket and headphones to stay snugly and entertained. These wireless ear buds are at the top of my list.

Holiday Reading

December 7th, 2017

One of my favorite ways to relax is to curl up with a good book.  Now that I’m a new mom, I’m not exactly rolling in free time.  I’m looking forward to reading a few books over the holidays. I’m in a book club here in Denver and have read almost all of these books.  The only one I lack is this one and I’m hoping to read it over break.

What are you reading at the moment?

Hello and happy Friday! Today I have a Meghan Markle inspired gift guide. I love to throw in a celebrity inspired collection (remember Mindy Lahiri’s?) and I think we can all agree Meghan’s style is one to aspire to.  I am so excited for another royal wedding and something happy in the news.  Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Home Decor Gift Guide

November 22nd, 2017

Hello and happy Wednesday! Today I have a gift guide for the home decor obsessed.  It’s a heavy board because, well, it’s my favorite topic! Let’s begin:

I posted a blog on this recently, but I LOVE JYDH prints.  I think one definitely needs to go in our new powder bath.  I’m eyeing this one. They’re beautiful and at a great price point.

I’ve been blogging about Mandy’s shop since day 1.  I love her online store.  She has a uniquely curated shop full of gems.  I love the cactus vase, memo board and this candle pagoda.

Diane Keaton has a book out on her new home and it is at the top of my wish list. What a great addition for any cocktail table.

These planters are perfect for any mantle or counter needing a little punch.  Throw in your favorite succulent or flower and you have a beautiful statement piece.

I also love a gift that is not only beautiful but functional.  This Tic Tac Toe piece is good looking and fun for any party guest.

Beauty Enthusiast Gift Guide

November 17th, 2017

Hello and Happy Friday! I have to admit, I am loving the gift guides this year.  It’s so fun to see what people pick and learn about new things.  Today I’m coming to you with a guide for the beauty enthusiast in your life, which I feel like lately is everyone.

I got a blow out in New York last year and was very impressed by the flat iron she used. For someone who has always been an avid CHI user, it was a big deal for me to branch out.  This flat iron heats up ridiculously fast and works amazing.  I love it.

I got one of these last year and am a huge fan.  For someone like me who has sensitive skin, it works like a charm.  If you’re tired of having to wait out dramatic sleep lines on your face, a silk pillow cover is for you.

This hairdryer was a discovery from our girls trip last fall to New York.  My mom had this dryer and IT IS AMAZING.  It will blow you into next week.  If you hate drying your hair, you need to make sure you have the right tools.  This powerful dryer is salon grade and cuts my drying time in half.

I have to say, I’m a sucker for any eye palate from Bobbi Brown.  I love her shadows, and their collections are always beautiful.  This one is pretty, small enough to throw in your purse and easy on the wallet.

I got a Sephora sampler recently and am obsessed with the Egg Cream Mask.  Denver is so dry it will literally turn you into a reptile.  This cream hydrates so intensely without provoking a breakout.

What are your favorite beauty products? I’d love to hear!
