I love the color green. It is a redhead’s best friend, and Adele’s dress from the Grammy’s has me all inspired. Sometimes a bold punch is just what your interior needs.

I’m currently craving all things mudcloth and am scheming for ways to include it in my house. I want to do something special with the main powder bath, and I think a fun Shibori Wallcovering is just what the doctor ordered. For now, how amazing are these spaces? Most are from the lovely Amber Interiors (who has full on mastered this look).

This weekend, in between cleaning and furiously packing boxes for our upcoming move, I took a break and watched the preview to the upcoming season of the Real Housewives of Orange County. The Housewife series has always been my guilty pleasure, and lately I have been taken with Vicki’s home. San Diego designer Leanne Michael did some updates for her a few years ago (I posted on her fabulous dining room renovation here) and she has done it again. Her newly designed kitchen completely took over my focus. From the custom island to the ridiculous marble counter-tops, I am obsessed with every detail. Here is a before shot just to give you the full picture:
And the AFTER:
First thing I did this morning was send Leanne a congratulatory email on a job well done. You can see more of her stunning work here.

If you’re a fan of Gilmore Girls, then you know Alexis Bledel (Rory). She and her husband recently sold their Brooklyn Heights Penthouse Duplex and it is dreamy. The key to this space is tall ceilings and lots of light: everyone’s real estate dream in New York City. Take a look:
I can’t decide what’s better: the vaulted ceilings or the bathroom. Stunning.

I don’t know if you’ve seen this, but I’m currently obsessed with half painted walls. The paint should go up only a portion of the wall and not be finished out in any way (only a good clean paint line). How cool do these spaces look?
I especially love how the last image even continues the theme over the painting. I’m seriously considering this for the new house! Happy leap day to you.

My sweet friend in New York (we’ll call her “Lauren”) is currently hustling in the city, studying to get her PHD, teaching several classes and volunteering with the Junior League. You know, all in a day’s work. She currently lives in Brooklyn and would be much better served to live closer in the city. While the commute from the Upper East Side may be just as hectic, this apartment is PERFECT for her personality (minus the nursery of course). Take a look!
Stunning right? White walls in NYC is the perfect application.

I’ve been working on a beach house on the gulf coast of Florida for the past two years and we finally installed the furnishings last week. I picked all the interior finishes, furniture, lighting and accessories. To say it’s been fun is an understatement, and I told the client it was my “Sistine Chapel.” Several of you have asked for a more comprehensive photo tour, so here ya go! I hope you love it as much as I do. If things are retail, I’ve included a shop-able link below each photo. If there’s not a link, it’s a custom or trade piece.
Two happy customers! For more inspiration, follow @designsbykaty on Instagram.

Before we begin, Happy Cinco De Mayo! Hope your week is off to a great start. I’m back from a weekend away and preparing for tomorrow’s day trip to Charlotte. Back to the grind!
It’s no secret that I love subway tile, but my current love is for the beveled version. It takes a typical traditional finish to sophisticated perfection.
Heaven. If you’re in the market, Ann Sacks and Interceramic have beautiful choices.

I got back at 10pm last night from our install in Houston.
A junior designer and I installed my co-worker’s project (who is now on maternity).
I LOVED this Kelly Wearstler inspired reading nook.
It was 85 degrees there yesterday with 91% humidity.
I landed to a rainy 45 degree Denver and could not have been happier about it.
We put in three full crazy days and I am exhausted.
For now, here’s a peek at one of our models.
It turned out great! If you live in Houston, check out The Virage off Memorial and Detering.

I’m seeing quite a bit of pink come through in our reps latest product presentations. Deep pinks, fuchsias.
I doubt our current developers would let us design a primarily pink model apartment, but I am loving it.
A random pop of pink via a velvet sofa or amazing piece of art is right up my alley.
When well executed, pink can add a very rich point of interest to a space.
Always pretty in pink!
