Jessica won the DBK design consultation giveaway and we’ve been talking about her space. She and her husband are expecting their first child in March and they just moved into a storybook Tudor home this summer. She had yet to get to the nursery, so we began chatting.
Jessica is a graphic designer. She was wanting something bright and cherry with typography artwork and an aqua and orange color scheme.
The above is a shot of the room in it’s current state. As you can see, she has great bones. Beautiful wood floors, a great window and lots of natural light.
After a few back and forths we landed on this:
After my nursery post a few weeks ago, I’ve decided a Target crib might be the way to go. They have great designs that won’t drain your bank account. Found adorable bedding from Layla Grace that goes perfectly with her color scheme requirement.
Gliders are insanely expensive. It’s a mean trick. But West Elm has come out with two and this frame and fabric choice was too perfect. My designer discount brings it to $680 which is still pretty steep. Believe it or not, Walmart has some great Pottery Barn knock offs (love this one).
I love the texture (and price point) the IKEA pendant brings to the table Surya (trade source) as always comes in nicely, all paired with great selections from Etsy. Not to forget, blackout shades seem to be a nursery must. These gross-grain romans from Pottery Barn are currently on sale, and designers get a discount on top of that.
She also asked if a dresser she’s had since the fifth grade could be useable:
Absolutely! I would paint this white (maybe Benjamin Moore’s Brillant?) and add these for the drawer pulls:
Dotted Zinnia Knob from Anthropolgie (designers get 15% off!)
Or this sweet one:
Through the Woods Knob from Anthro
One other problematic area for Jessica was the adjoining bath. Ready for the befores?
This bathroom also has fantastic bones (built-in storage, modern pedestal sink). All you need is some cosmetic, love like this:
Good luck Jessica! I hope this leaves you inspired to tackle that nursery.
